Overview
A Transit Visa allows eligible travellers to transit through Canada by air for up to 48 hours. If your transit is longer than 48 hours or you plan to “visit,” you generally need a visitor visa instead.
Who this is for
This route may apply if you:
- Are from a visa-required country and transiting through a Canadian airport within 48 hours
- Are not planning to enter Canada for tourism/visit purposes
Typical supporting documents (examples)
- Passport and identity documents
- Confirmed onward ticket(s) and travel itinerary
- Valid visa/entry permission for your destination (if required)
- Any documents requested by IRCC portal steps
How we support you
We confirm whether you need a transit visa vs visitor visa and help prepare a clean, short transit-focused file.
