Overview
A Spousal Open Work Permit may allow eligible spouses/common-law partners of certain temporary residents (e.g., some foreign workers) to work for most employers in Canada without an LMIA. Eligibility rules changed—as of Jan 21, 2025 only select spouses/partners qualify under specific measures.
Who this is for
This may apply if you are:
- Spouse/common-law partner of an eligible foreign worker (and you meet IRCC’s category requirements)
- In a situation where open work permits for family members are permitted under current rules
Typical supporting documents (examples)
- Relationship proof (marriage certificate/partnership proof)
- Main applicant’s status and employment evidence
- Passports/identity documents
- Any additional eligibility evidence required by IRCC
How we support you
We confirm you fall within the current eligible spouse categories, build a checklist, and prepare a linked file that matches the main applicant’s status and work proof.
